Easter and the heat wave

April 9th, 2010

We just uploaded the pictures from Easter weekend off the camera so I thought I’d wait until now to do our Easter post. The weather here has been unseasonably warm (even for Virginia, where April can get a bit on the warm side even in a normal year). The temps have been in the high 80′s and low 90′s for about a solid week now, which made for a very enjoyable Easter weekend. I’ll let the pictures tell most of the story…

She picked up about 4 eggs before she realized that they were more than just things to put in her basket…

Oh! There’s candy in those eggs!

Once the candy discovery was made she ceased all egg hunting and began to open her eggs and devour her candy in earnest. The rest of these next pictures look a little funny only because she has chocolate stuffed in her mouth.

No more pictures!!! In Hazel’s words: I Run, I Run, I Run!!

Jered kind of looks like he’s in the Secret Service in this one…

The other family picture of the day…(as you can tell, we don’t pose very well- makes for fun pictures, though!)

We spent Easter Sunday hunting for eggs after church and then took a quick trip down to the beach (which is about a 2 minute walk from our church). We stayed for a little while, but then headed home for Hazel’s afternoon nap. After her nap the rest of the afternoon was spent in the back yard enjoying the weather. We hid some more eggs in the back yard, and Hazel enjoyed finding the hidden treasures as well as discovering her Easter basket full of goodies from Grammy, Grampy, Omi and GG. She got a very cute Lorax toy and Dr. Seuss book that she has spent quite a bit of time with this week- thanks GG! The bubbles Grammy and Grampy sent were a big hit, especially with all the outside water time we were logging this week. Hazel also got a new rain coat from Omi which is just perfect for rainy days in the garden. Thanks for all the Easter goodies!

These pictures aren’t all from Easter, but they will give you a general idea as to what we’ve been up to this week! And yes, in case you are wondering, she does currently have about a half dozen swim suits. I bought two at the last consignment sale and her suits from last year still fit, so she has a different suit for every day of the week (lucky girl!). It’s actually been really nice because we never worry about running out of clean swim/water wear!

Garden Fun

April 7th, 2010

Here are a few videos from our back yard escapades this week- the weather has been so warm and sunny!

More 80 and 90 degree weather is on its way until this weekend when things will cool down to more seasonable temps (but still nice, in the 60′s and 70′s).
As Hazel says: Good to go!

Overheard…

April 1st, 2010

I think I may start doing “overheard” posts more frequently since we are hearing the funniest things here lately!
On the way home from our picnic at the beach tonight, “Home, home- no dirty, bath night!” (she knew it was bath night and she was feeling a little sandy)

Looking for deer on the parkway, “Deer, are you? Snack time deer!” (we always tell her the deer are out for their bedtime snack)

At the vet with Oscar this morning, “Oscar smell bad, stinky doggie, Bath, Oscar, Bath!”

After Oscar gets his bath today, “Oscar nice, No Stinky, Hug Oscar” (apparently this kid doesn’t hug stinky dogs- smart kid!)

As Jered was getting ready to leave for work, “No Work Papa, Papa Home!!!” (she points to the ground when she says home, as if to say you better not even think about leaving this house!)

When trying to find our car in the parking lot, “Mama Car, are you? Three apples mama, three apples- otherside car!” (the Passat has three little apple stickers on it and we’ve told her that is how we find our car- we found a Passat without apple stickers on it and she called it the otherside car)
